Minors Go Mining at Country Park.

Free Easter Holiday Entry for all Children.

March 2008 Media Release

Children and their families visiting St Austell’s China Clay Country Park this Easter holiday have a special treat in store for them. The Museum and Heritage Centre will be opening its newly installed Play Clay Pit complete with John Deere 6920 model pedal tractors and excavators with automatic arm locking.

The new ‘Play Clay Pit’ will also have bucket, spade and hard-hat toys available as well as signed warnings to adults prohibiting access unless accompanied by a child clay worker.

The new facility forms part of China Clay’s continued investment in developing its family activities on site that now includes challenge assault courses, nature trails with quizzes, interactive museum displays and the chance to see real monstrous trucks at work.

For the whole of Easter week all visiting children have free entry on presentation of this print release from the China Clay Web Site. There will also be a competition draw with model trucks as prizes as well as for the winning parents a free lunchtime meal voucher for the on site Café Wheal Martyn.

Marketing Officer, Chris Carroll explained that while the Park is still essentially a unique Museum and Heritage Centre popular in term time for schools UK wide and overseas, more and more families with children both local and from up country now visit in the holiday season.

‘We are a good all weather site with a mix of indoor and outdoor experiences that have been progressively expanded since the opening of the new visitor centre", said Chris.

"Families have been telling us for some time that one of the highlights of their visit is the ‘ pit view’ into a working pit watching the monstrous trucks and monitors at work and how their kids would love to get down in there, have a go and get up close and personnel, so to speak.

Well the play clay pit is a response to this, not quite the real thing but I hope their excitement can now be expressed there with the model tractors and diggers with fun and that all important release for children, energy".

China Clay has a family programme of activities running throughout the Easter holiday period.
